TERRAIUTA is a site-specific installation made for Fuorisalone 2024 at Baranzate Atelier in Milan, developed through a collaboration between Vide Terra and Grond Studio.

The work brings together two humble materials: raw local earth and reclaimed jute coffee sacks. Using the superadobe technique, the earth was packed into long tubular jute bags and rammed to form a curved wall that rises vertically through the space.

The project emerged from an interest in the tension between the strength of earth and the delicacy of textile work. Discarded coffee sacks — originally designed to transport a material grown from soil — are cut, sewn and transformed into vessels for the earth itself. Stitching, normally associated with the intimate scale of clothing and textiles, becomes part of a process of building.

TERRAIUTA brings together two apparently opposing gestures: the fineness and patience of sewing and the physical force of ramming earth. The jute holds the earth, while the earth gives the textile a new weight, structure and form.
