Out of Khthōn approaches the chthonic as both material and concept — a space of what lies beneath visibility.

Built from layers of earth in muted ochres, greys and iron-rich tones, the surface is gradually constructed and then partially excavated. Scratching and erosion reveal underlying strata, while root-like formations and ambiguous figures emerge from the terrain.

The work moves between abstraction and figuration, suggesting subterranean networks, buried forms and traces of life that remain hidden beneath the surface. Rather than representing the earth as a passive ground, Out of Khthōn treats it as an active material — one that conceals, preserves and gradually reveals.

Directional light intensifies the relief, casting shadows into the excavated surface and making visible forms that might otherwise remain latent. The work thus becomes a threshold between what is seen and what remains concealed: a fragment of an imagined subterranean world emerging from the earth.
